Studying marine ecology is a fantastic way to get closer to—and gain a better understanding of—the environment where we conduct our dives.

Marine ecology is a discipline within biology or environmental science that explores how organisms interact with one another and with the marine environment. During the course, you will learn—in an accessible and comprehensive way—how marine food webs function, how the distribution of organisms is influenced by factors like temperature and light, the basics of oceanography, how humans affect the sea (including the impacts we have on its vital cycles), and the efforts being made to conserve and protect the marine environment.

As with all courses from our certifying agency, SSI, the theoretical material is available online—accessible from anywhere in the world, at your own pace, and in the language of your choice. This training is complemented by two theory sessions focused on the marine ecology of the Mediterranean Sea—because understanding our local environment encourages the behavioral changes needed to conserve it—which will be held via the Zoom platform.

Practical training will be provided by our biologist, Aurora Requena, one of the founders of the dive center.

Duration

8 hours of online theory at your own pace, and 4 hours of seminars via Zoom.
