For the 12th consecutive year, we are organizing a summer day camp at the Port of Calafat, allowing children who live in or spend their summers in L’Ametlla de Mar to explore nature and the marine world, guided by marine biologists, oceanographers, and leisure specialists.
In 2026, the Ocean Treaty—which aims to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030—has come into effect. Currently, only 0.9% of international waters are effectively protected; therefore, this agreement is crucial for establishing marine sanctuaries and securing essential resources for millions of people. According to Greenpeace, reaching this goal will require protecting more than 12 million km² annually over the next five years. You can read more about this via Greenpeace or RTVE.
As an organization dedicated to scientific outreach, we believe it is important for children to be aware of this reality. For this reason, our 2026 summer camp will focus on the Treaty and marine conservation.
We will work on:
Our program is a science-focused day camp centered on the marine environment. We learn through observation, experimentation, and snorkeling, taking a multidisciplinary approach—covering biology, physics, chemistry, geology, fishing, and more—with a deep connection to the Mediterranean. Understanding our environment is the first step toward conserving it.
Snorkeling is our flagship activity and takes place every single day. For this reason, it is important that children feel comfortable swimming in the sea. Participants are required to have a wetsuit, a mask, a snorkel, and water shoes or booties; if you do not have your own, we offer rentals. This also allows you to continue snorkeling as a family, giving your children the chance to share everything they have learned with us.
The camp is open to children aged 5 to 14 (from the final year of preschool—P5—up to the second year of secondary school—2n d’ESO). Participants are divided into 3 or 4 groups so that the content and activities can be tailored to their age level.
What cool, unique things are we doing at our camp this year?
Your children can finish the summer camp week with the SSI Snorkel Diver certification for free, provided they complete the theory section from home before the camp by visiting: https://www.divessi.com/es/divecenter/711292. They will need to register and create a personal profile (entering all their personal details, uploading a photo and providing the email address of the responsible adult, who must authorise them to take the course). Then, go to the Training section, select Courses and look for Snorkel Diver.
For those who are interested, we also offer the SSI Blue Oceans course free of charge, covering sustainability and the protection of our seas and oceans.
NOTE: Our summer camp complies with the regulations established by the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya), Decree 267/2016, as well as the regulations on COVID-19 prevention.
